Our Leadership
God called Adrian E. Dowell to Pastor and lead the Shiloh Baptist Church on January 2, 1994. While
Pastor Dowell serves as the CEO of Shiloh, the joint boards of Deacon’s and Trustees provide leadership
as well. The Deacon’s serve and minister in love to the church members and their individual and
spiritual needs. The Trustees are responsible for overseeing our buildings, properties, and some of the
business functions of the the church.

About our Pastor Adrian E. Dowell
Reverend Adrian E. Dowell, Sr. Shiloh Baptist Church Salem, Virginia Pastor Adrian E. Dowell, Sr. is a native of Bluefield, WV and is a graduate of Bluefield High School and Bluefield State College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Reverend Dowell has also matriculated at Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary and the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. Pastor Dowell has been bestowed two honorary doctorate degrees recognizing his ministry and community service throughout the Roanoke Valley. He is also a licensed Social Worker and has previously served as both a member and Secretary of the West Virginia Board of Social Work Examiners, appointed by then Governor Gaston Caperton in 1992.
Reverend Dowell was licensed as a Baptist minister on November 2, 1983, by the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV under the Pastorate of the late Reverend Fermnell Dowell, Sr. Upon being ordained on November 14, 1994 he soon after was extended the call to become the thirteenth Pastor of the Historic Memorial Baptist Church in Switchback, WV. There he faithfully served until accepting the call to become the 10 th Pastor of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Salem, VA and was formally installed on January 9, 1994; succeeding the Reverend Dr. Enos H. Glaspie, Sr. who served honorably as the Pastor of Shiloh for forty-one years.
Since relocating to Salem, Reverend Dowell has been privilege to serve on several community and faith-based boards throughout the Roanoke Valley. He has also been blessed within the Salem community to have served as a Board member of the YMCA of Salem, the City of Salem Schools Strategic Planning Task Force, the City of Salem Interracial Relations Committee, the City of Salem Education Foundation and Alumni Association, and the Roanoke College Multicultural Advisory Board, and a Board member for The Alliance for Excellence Program at Virginia Western Community College. Pastor Dowell has also previously served as a member of the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Medical Center Bioethics Committee and the Lewis-Gale Medical Center Bioethics Committee.
Pastor Dowell currently serves as a member of the New River Valley Metro Area Board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. With a great passion for youth, Reverend Dowell served many years as a volunteer baseball, softball, football and basketball coach for both the City of Bluefield, WV and the City of Salem. He strongly believes that there is no greater ministry than that of serving, mentoring and introducing our children to Jesus Christ. Reverend Dowell is married to the former Denise Mason Dowell of Charleston, WV and they are the proud parents of two adult children, Candace Dowell-Morrison of Roanoke, and Adrian (AJ) Dowell, Jr. of Omaha, NE. They are blessed to be the proud grandparents of six beautiful grandchildren, Aaron, Ariana, Lauren, Paige, Adrian III, and Alijah.
